Before reaching the Moldoveanu over the ridge, you climb the slightly lower Vistea Mare (2527 meters). From this peak you have a beautiful panoramic view and of course you can see the Moldoveanu perfectly.
You have to climb a bit to get to the top but it's worth it! You have a wonderful all-round view of the Fagaraš mountain range of the Transylvanian Alps and you stand on the ninth highest mountain in Romania.
Very steep ascent with lots of scree and small climbing sections. Good footwear and ideally hiking poles recommended. Only for people with a head for heights. Allow enough time for the ascent and descent.
The path there is a bit bumpy in places, but it's easily manageable, always along the rocks. It's a lovely place to take a break and admire the surrounding mountains.
