Chata na Baske is a mountain hut located in the Strážovské vrchy mountains at the top of the Baske, near Trenčianske Teplíce and Nova Dubnica in Slovakia. The most famous is the red route, which is more demanding but offers many beautiful views. The second and less demanding is the blue route along the serpentines. The path to the cottage provides an opportunity to discover the local flora and fauna. Chata na Baska offers simple accommodation and basic catering services. It is an ideal place for refreshments after a hard hike, and it often happens that hikers spend the night here to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the mountains. In the cottage, cottagers usually prepare goulash. borscht or cabbage. Among the drinks are alcoholic and non-alcoholic beer. Recently, it has become popular to go to the Basque Country by bike, but on a different route than the tourist route. The surroundings of the cottage in Baska are ideal for hiking and other outdoor activities. The peak of Baske itself offers beautiful panoramic views of the Strážovské vrchy and other parts of the Trenčín region. The cottage has a pleasant and friendly atmosphere that attracts not only tourists, but also local residents. It is an ideal place to relax after a day's hike, where you can enjoy the beauty of nature in peace and quiet. Bloody Lopnik During the Second World War, the border between the Empire and the Slovak State passed through Lopeník, which recorded illegal crossings to Slovakia. But at such crossings, you had to reckon with the fact that you could pay with your life if the border guards caught you. At the end of the war, heavy fighting took place in the upper reaches of Velké Lopeník. The Red Army encountered stiff resistance from the German defense here. It was broken through on April 27, 1945. About 250 soldiers died in the fighting, as well as a number of local residents. Artillery shells often fell as far as the village of the same name, and a total of 21 houses were demolished. Even after the end of the war, there were still several fatal accidents. The local residents, who had to clear away the fallen soldiers, drove their wagons into the mined forests. A common grave for 22 soldiers was excavated directly on the top, over which a monument was built in 1975.

The lookout tower on Velké Lopeník was inaugurated in July 2005. It stands on the Czech-Slovak border and people from both sides of the border participated in its creation. The tower itself is wooden, standing on a stone foundation, and its height is 20 meters. Newly arranged educational trails lead to it from the surrounding villages. Entrance: charged 50 CZK
