A beautiful area where you can have a great time

There is a fee to enter the castle (around 300 UAH, August 2023) but it is worth it, especially if you are interested in the history of this fortress from its beginnings to the present day. Excavations and renovations are still taking place, so there is something new to see with each new visit.

The climb to a height of around 150 meters is worth it at any time of the year. A panoramic view and, depending on the weather, a panoramic view are breathtaking. Even if the path is a bit overgrown, it is worth continuing up. Attention: Sturdy shoes are necessary as there are no parapets or railings.

Count Schönborn's Beregvar hunting palace

Half-ruined castle, built in the XII century. The walls offer a picturesque landscape of nearby villages and mountains, and in good weather you can easily see Uzhgorod. The footpath to the castle passes next to the newly built hotel complex "Verkhovyna", and contains many stairs (in some places the bike will have to carry).

Chynadijowo is located northeast of Mukachevo in Transcarpathia and is one of the few villages in the Ukraine, where even two ancient castles have been preserved, namely the pleasure palace of the Counts Schonborn and the castle "Sent-Miklosch". Since the counts Schönborn liked to go hunting, in 1729 a hunting lodge stood at the spot where the present castle is located. Around 1890, the magnificent castle was built in the French Romantic style. The castle's architecture is symbolic as there are 365 windows, 52 rooms and 12 entrance doors, as many as it has days, weeks and months of a calendar year. The castle of the Counts Schönborn is today a sanatorium for heart and circulatory diseases.

The castle Palanok "Plankenburg" is located on a mountain cone of volcanic origin west of the town of Mukachevo in Transcarpathia. The origins of the castle complex go back to the 14th century. The castle has seen a changeable development. After the Rákóczi family, who owned the castle until 1711, Emperor Charles VI. the castle and the lands around Mukachevo in 1726 to the Mainz elector-archbishop Lothar Franz von Schönborn. The possessions remained in the possession of the Counts of Schönborn until the 20th century. Later the castle was used as a barracks and prison, over time it was rebuilt as a fortress and today it houses a museum dedicated to the history of the castle and the town of Mukachevo.
