This 500-year-old lava tube was created by a river of lava. Nowadays the lava tube is lit for visitors from 8am-8pm, and the National Park Service urges you to be avoid touching the tube's walls and any hanging roots, as they support entire ecosystems of very delicate organisms. Parking around the lava tube is extremely scarce, but you can hike here along the Crater Rim Trail, which offers many more parking opportunities.

This beautiful beach and its black lava caves are accessible only by hiking the famous Kalalau Trail. Swimming is not recommended here: the unprotected waters are subject to strong surf and ferocious rip currents that have killed many visitors. This is a popular stopping/turnaround point for day hikers on the Kalalau Trail. If you want to continue further on the trail, you need an overnight permit. Experienced hikers can also turn inland and hike up the Hanakapi'ai Valley to Hanakapi'ai Falls, although that is a steep, grueling hike with a lot of stream crossings.

Haena Beach is a park with lots of amenities where visitors can see tropical jungles join white sand beaches. Mount Makana (Bali Hai) is in the background and makes for great photography opportunities, especially around sunset and sunrise. When the water is calm, there is good swimming and shell-searching. It is very important for visitors to leave any shells they find on the beach. Surfing gets big in the winter, so visitors might do better watching the pro surfers rather than heading into the water themselves. There is a lifeguard station, restrooms, showers, and (permitted) campsites.

Rainbow (Waiānuenue) Falls is a large waterfall, measuring 80 ft (24 m) tall and almost 100 ft (30 m) in diameter. It is free to enter and see the falls because this area is part of the Hawai'i State Parks. There is no fee to see the falls. Rainbow Falls gets its name from the rainbows that show around the falls, created by the mist from the falls and the sunshine at 10:00 a.m.
