The Kettenburg is a medieval water castle in Gräfentonna. It was rebuilt several times and served as a correctional facility for a period of 130 years until 1989, hence the name Kettenburg.

Very nice excavation and reconstruction of an old castle ruin. This highlight is worth a short detour. Very interesting place.

Until the land reform in 1945, the property remained and was owned by the Lucius family. Then war refugees and displaced persons moved in. The castle was later discovered as a place for school sports and for lunching for school children. It also became a hostel for the kindergarten in Klein-Ballhausen. Today the castle is used as a residential building.
