Copper and silver ores were discovered in the Golden Lauter valley in the 15th century and mined until the end of the 19th century. Unfortunately, no gold was found, as one might assume from the name.
The Wedelbachgraben rises at "Rote Hög", flows through the Wedelbachteich of the same name and flows into the Apfelstädt below the very unspoilt and idyllic Wedelbachklamm.
