Away from the road lies the Urdonautal and gives you the opportunity to explore it on good asphalt. For Gravellers there is also the egg or other detour. It can be crowded at times on weekends.

Achtal, an old arm of the Danube, was inhabited by Neanderthals in the Middle Paleolithic and by H.sapiens in the Upper Paleolithic/Aurignacian. The famous cave was in the Hohle Felshöhle Hohle Fels Venus found (approx. 40,000 years old). The Venus from Hohle Fels can be viewed in the Blaubeuren Museum. Incidentally, an excellent archaeological museum that is definitely worth a visit. Equally interesting is the discovery of the oldest musical instrument, a swan bone flute from the Geißenklösterle cave. (35,000-40,000 years old)
