A castle was built on the rocky outcrop opposite in the 12th century. It was protected on one side by a deep ravine and on the other by a moat, part of which can still be seen today. In 1351 the monastery bought the castle and did not keep it. As a result, it slowly but steadily fell into disrepair. An information board states that the Lords of Gleichen later built a castle on these walls. However, I have not been able to find any further information about this, let alone drawings or pictures.

Very nice valley, but not on a racing bike, please. The surface is muddy or dry, at least with a lot of rubble, i.e. on foot or with wide tires.

Unfortunately, the surface is getting a bit old. The descent from Hermsdorf should be approached slowly, as there are always a few cross gullies. Contrary to other opinions, the Zeitzgrund is easily accessible by racing bike up to the Janismühle. You have to have a good day because sometimes there are too many visitors (similar to the Mühltal).

You should definitely be sure-footed here and not suffer from fear of heights. But the way and the beautiful view is unique.
