The Christental flood retention basin is located in the Göppingen district in Baden-Württemberg and is operated - like the Herrenbach and Simonsbach flood retention basins - by the Fils water association. The dammed Schwarzwiesenbach is a tributary of the Lauter in the Fils catchment area. The Christental is located in the Stauferland near Lauterstein north of the Nenningen district; it was supposedly named after a fictitious battle between pagans and Christians, which has been located here since around 1800 - following a fiction by the chronicler Thomas Lirer.
