The cliff is a stretch of coast that is subject to constant change. In stormy weather and high tide, the glacial debris is washed under by the waves and gnawed more and more at the surf cave until the steep wall above it subsides and the coast recedes more and more. The detached material is carried along by the current parallel to the coast and deposited again in the current shadow. This is how the Rustewerder beach hook was created, which separated the Faulen See (a small lagoon) from the Baltic Sea. In addition, the coast was straightened a bit. The “rocks” of the cliff consist of glacial debris, that is, moraine material that was dragged along by the glacier ice during the last Ice Age. Due to the erosion shoot, large chunks are repeatedly removed from it and some of them are lying around on the beach and in the shallow water area. These boulders consist of crystalline rock from the Scandi, so they have traveled thousands of kilometers and thousands of years.
