Simply put, a great place.

On the Hellberg there is (or was) an approximately 300-year-old oak tree known as the “Tilly oak tree”. According to local tradition, the tree is intended to commemorate the military leader of the Catholic League, Count Tilly.

Rest area with short information board, bench and table. You have to look for the oak a little...

From here you have a panoramic view over Mackenrode to the Harz Mountains. If the visibility is very good you can also see the Brocken and on the other side the Ohm Mountains. There is a bench in the corner where you can sit and relax.

We have the Tillysee...you have the Tilly Eiche The Tillysee is an inland lake in the district of Oldenburg, near the southern city limits of the city of Oldenburg. It belongs to the municipality of Wardenburg.

Larger army camps in the Thirty Years' War stank pitifully. That has since evaporated. Here you can rest comfortably without odor nuisance or danger from marauding soldiers. In the light of my headlamp, the place appeared well-groomed and attractive on 10/10/2021.

Where the great armies of the Thirty Years' War were encamped, it must have stinked poorly. The stink has now disappeared here. In the meantime, you can relax and take a rest without unpleasant smells and without the risk of marauding soldiers.
