The Langer Wacken section is around 200 meters long, up to 15 meters high and 20 meters wide. The formation of the Wacken goes back to the Permian Age (250 million years ago). Huge fissures formed in the earth's crust. When hot, silicic acid-rich solutions had cooled down, quartz veins formed. This formed an impressive rock cliff. On the northwest side there is a five meter deep cavity, the Schinderhanneshöhle. This is said to have been a camp of the robber captain. Visiting caves can be dangerous. When it comes to safety in all caves, please behave as if you were the first to climb. "If you are in going to a cave ... don't take anything with you, leave nothing behind do not destroy anything and do not kill anything! " According to Section 39 of the Federal Nature Conservation Act, the bat protection period begins on October 1st and ends on March 31st.
