One of the three stalactite caves in the Bitburg-Prüm district is located on the Holsthum/Peffingen border. It is a high calcareous sinter cliff through which a small stream flows. A staircase leads up the Huwelslay stream. At the bottom of the path, a little to the side, you can climb up the rock to a bench in the rock. This is an storage tunnel, a part of the Westwall fortificatioun, used to supply near bunkers with rations, ammunitions and fuel. This one was about 800 meters long, and played an crucial role in the preparation for the Battle of the Bulge.

Hello @TS, your puzzle inspired us. Good thing we always have a headlamp with us! So we went through the gap and around the corner. There is no cave opening up here, but with a bit of goodwill a few people can stand or crouch here. But that certainly wouldn't have been possible for several days or weeks. On the other hand, there are enough hiding places in the rocks...

As soon as I was inside, the rain got much heavier, so I stayed in the cave for a moment. Was that ever the case with Andibonn?🤣🤣🤣

Lime sinter rocks on the western slope of the heath ridge between Holsthum and Peffingen. The name stands for Eulenfelsen (huwel => owl, lay => rock).

The gap is really very narrow. I couldn't find out whether there was a sufficiently large room for several people at the end.

The cave leads about 5 meters into the rock. Ideal protection in thunderstorms or heavy rain.

At station 2 of the fairy tale path there is a hole in the rock. A few meters further a similar one that is almost a small cave. You can walk in a few meters. Looks like "small" mining to me. Not of natural origin. The ground beneath the foliage sounds hollow, as if there were a wooden floor with a hollow. Do I have to go back and find the treasure?
