Just above Frankendorf in the Hohlgasse, several cellars are carved into the rock

I guess that it used to be a cool beer cellar place but it doesn't have to be like that. I don't know if there's anything further behind it.

Unfortunately, this trail is overgrown, because we went the other way around, we didn't find the trail

Here caves were carved into the rock, several next to each other. I think they were used as cold storage rooms in the past.

The geological subsoil of the Bamberg mountain area is Keuper sandstone. Sand extraction has been in operation since the 11th century, and this continued well into the industrial age. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the rock cellars were used to store wine and later beer and malt. During the 19th century more tunnel systems were added, resulting in a tunnel system almost 10 km long. In 1941, the underground tunnels were expanded for air raid protection purposes. The ascent from Frankendorf over the Frankendorfer Keller a challenge. As a descent really great.

Msn finds the small footbridge that leads across the stream somewhat hidden How to get to the cellars. Some are open and you can take a look inside. The small stream offers many steps and is therefore also nice to look at
