After the Second World War, peat was mined here on a large scale to a depth of six metres. This is how the peat pits, which are today's water areas, were created.

The moor to the east of Lunden has been developed into a nature experience area through a dense network of paths, fishing ponds and plantings. The information center is located in the old school in Lunden.

Here you can park, swim, launch your boat and relax. A “small sandy beach” was also filled up here.

The detour is worthwhile, but not for swimming, because this is a moor pond and not a bathing lake. It might even be dangerous to climb into the body of water as the swamp is bottomless. The specified circuit has a lot to offer. After the Second World War, the area was the largest peat quarry in Schleswig-Holstein. From the kingfisher to the greylag goose to the big leaping deer, there is a lot to watch.
