The Trout Pond is one of the ponds 'in the forest.' It is fed by several springs close to the pond (to the west) and also by a spring a few hundred meters southwest. From there, the water flows via a small waterfall into the Horseshoe Pond and then into the Nieplitz River.

This was once the site of the Raben swimming pool, which was no longer used and fell into disrepair. But then the rare alpine newts discovered the remaining concrete pool and found that it was ideal for raising their young. From that moment on, they used it to spawn in the spring and conservationists made the previously steep concrete walls more accessible for the newts.
