Two large flood channels, 60 m wide and approx. 2 m below the level of the floodplain, were reactivated. Historical maps formed the basis for the reconstruction of these channels. In addition, existing quarry ponds were included in the approx. 2 km long floodplain reactivation. In the inner-city area of Rotenburg, the Fulda was widened to 60 to 70 m over a length of approx. 500 m in accordance with its model.
