When open you can visit it for free. It gives a more ‚in use for actual prayer‘ impression than the tourist destinations in the centre.

Currently more a lost place than a monastry, probably because access is more difficult with the roadf being blocked by landslides. The big statue is now either gone or encased in a building which is not accessible.

What an experience and what a disappointment at the same time. The German name 'Geschmack' of this place describes all it is not is. Neither interiour, smell,music or the beer brewed here have anything tasteful in them. It is quite authentic and a real experience, but actully drinking a whole glass of this soapy liquid which is tapped in a mysterious way from somewhere invisible is only for the brave - though it is fair to say that already in the middle ages beer was considered the safer alternative to water and you might actually survive without too bad consequences.

Nice collection artefacts from the dairs history of the region. The museum is on the site of Yili and contains quite some company marketing as well.

In the meantime the trees are large enough to walk below and the pavement has been renewed.

The upper part apparently can only be visited by a bus tour, which was not available today. Ticket was 30 RMB.
