There was a willingness in the city to erect a monument to the king - everyone should do their part. But a monument like this - the parallels to the present are unmistakable - requires extensive consultation and the most precise examination of the material, the positioning and the design. The bust should be worthy, befitting a king and the city and its magistrate, its citizens. Ultimately, lawsuits were averted, the costs were raised and the Max monument was commissioned.
