The refuge was dedicated to Paul Gerhard Christ, a forest worker in the Wahlrod community. Paul Gerhard Christ did an above-average commitment to the forest and, after his retirement in 1999, devoted himself to bird protection. He built and placed nest boxes and maintained the winter feeding grounds. At the same time he took care of the forest roads and made necessary repairs. He also made and placed several resting benches, which are still set up today as a resting pool for tired hikers. Paul Gerhard Christ died in 2018.
