A beautiful, idyllic place.

The Mehlbach pond, which has nothing to do with flour or mills, because it has too little water for a mill and has never powered one, is currently being renovated by Hessen Forst. The dam is being rebuilt. For those interested: The Mehlbach is actually called Molbach, which comes from the Middle High German expression mol and means newt, lizard. Fifty years ago the first syllable was pronounced short, i.e. Melbach, or even Mölbach. That is why the old cadastral maps of the Grand Duchy still say Molbach. It's a bit of a shame that the original name has been parodied here out of ignorance. See the Lagis-Hessen State Archives for more information! I've attached a map section to the pictures. It used to be one of the ponds that had to supply the fish, when meat was still Sunday food.

Great opportunity to relax - there are plenty of benches, the pond is extremely well maintained and invites you to linger. Highly Recommended!

There has always been a natural waterfall where the Buchenbach squeezes its way through the rocks in a shady, narrow gorge. In the early 1920s, in a small basalt quarry, stones for road construction began to be mined directly in front of it. When the company was shut down, the quarry gradually fell into disrepair and was misused as a wild garbage dump. With the start of land restructuring in Christerode in 1971, the plan was drawn up to expand this former quarry into a small pond. A dilapidated irrigation ditch was renewed to supply water. This is how today's waterfall was created, which falls over an approximately 11 m high cliff into the pond. The waterfall hut was built by the citizens of Christeröd themselves. A wonderfully beautiful lake with a diverse flora and fauna. The area is also worth seeing!

Unfortunately, nature conservation is not of primary importance for the Seehotel, but the surroundings are beautiful and home to an extremely diverse flora and fauna.
