This rainwater retention basin was created as a measure for flood protection in the municipality of Eitorf (located on the lower reaches of the Eipbach/ estuary into the Sieg) after a devastating flood devastated the central town of Eitorf in a very short time in the 1970s. One of them is this rainwater retention basin, which is intended to hold back the water masses that pour from the Leuscheid area around the Wohmbach into the Eipbach to a certain extent.
