Mouth of the Michaelis tunnel in the Mortelgrund near Sayda in the Ore Mountains valley. The mine was built on a vein bearing copper and silver and produced a certain yield, especially in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Good luck for! Experience mining history in the Ore Mountains up close. Tin was mined in the pit from the 16th to the 19th century and tungsten was primarily extracted from the 20th century. The tunnels and cavities clearly show various mining methods, including hammers and iron work, setting fire and blasting, which has been handed down through impressive widening. The mine stands for manorial tin mining, which was controlled for more than 300 years by the Saxon-Bohemian noble family von Bünau, based in the castle and town of Lauenstein. Cross-border mining and the historical connections between the two dominions are particularly evident in the Zinnwald deposit.
