The quarry is a relic from times long past and has not been "in operation" for a long time. Nevertheless, it is beautiful to look at the rock formation - it almost looks as if you can "see" different centuries.
The quarry offers a fascinating insight into the reed sandstone formation that forms the Heuchelberg massif. The mining operations created a gorge-like section that stands out sharply from the otherwise rather uniform elevations of the Heuchelberg.
In the Muttersbach valley ... a quiet, long, varied, natural one, with headwaters and side valleys/side streams, vineyards always recognizable on the slopes, slightly ascending, a gem/highlight! And ... on the entire route almost "all alone".
