Bensenbruch at the end of the Second World War. Since Gailbach and Dörrmorsbach became a combat zone during Holy Week 1945, people took refuge in cellars and tunnels to avoid bombs and grenades. People also sought refuge in the Bensenbruch, an old quarry. An approximately 15 meter long and over 2 meter high room in the form of a cellar vault could accommodate 50 to 60 people.

Bensenbruch Two caves remain from the former Bensenbruch. In the larger one, 50 to 60 people could find shelter during a bomb attack in 1945. The lamprophyre dike is bordered by the basal breccia (Buntsandstein) alternating with siltstones from the crumbly slate series.

If you go down the steps to the grotto, you will see the ravine there and just follow it. However, if you come from the other side, you might think that it is just a channel and not a narrow path. I saw a pillar there today that could have had signs on it. At the moment nothing is pointing to this grotto from any side. Overall - grotto plus ravine - a wonderfully fine place, a bit like being lost in the village.

There are also beautiful St. Mary's grotto, which is right on the hiking trail, and there are benches for a short break.

The Bensenbruch lies somewhat hidden near Dörmorsbach. This former quarry was used by the locals as a shelter during the hail of bombs in World War II. A wayside shrine and a memorial plaque provide information about the historical background.
