The Mecklenburger Weg is an old and scenic route to Prerow, passing the Buchhorster Maase. There, you'll find a thatched hunting lodge built in the 1980s for guests of the East German state hunt. Today, it's no longer in active use. Until reunification in 1989, large parts of the Darß area were a restricted area. Several panels on the building inform about the history of the Buchhorster Maase. Nearby, there's a large memorial stone for the forester, Baron Kurt von der Recke, and a circular pavilion. Please note: cycling is not permitted on the trail!

I can't understand why people cycle along here. The Mecklenburger Weg is clearly a hiking trail. And it also has a wooden barrier. It's a shame that some people don't stick to this and ruin this wonderful path. I can only recommend that every hiker put a thick branch on the path every now and then. If you're lucky you can see some animals here and you can hear endless birds.

An absolute must for delicious smoked fish. And it has been for decades. Straight from the smoker to your throat. It doesn't get any better than that.

On the Mecklenburger Weg is an old hunting lodge from 1981. At that time it was built and used for the elite party bigwigs.

A tasty and delightful fish smokehouse right at the port of Althagen (Ahrenshoop). A visit and tasting of the fish smokers offered here are simply a must.

Attention: Mecklenburger way is passable only on foot due to the surface condition (or with mountain bike, which is not allowed!).

In the port of Althagen (part of Ahrenshoop) there is next to the fish restaurant and a small hut right on the edge of the forest, in the summer months from 11:30 daily freshly smoked fish is offered. On rustic wooden benches you can enjoy the smoked fish with the right drink overlooking the harbor.
