6월 24, 2025, Maingestellsgraben
The name "Maingestellsgraben" is unwieldy, but it fits the tangle that currently exists there. What is it all about? The "Maingestellsgraben" is a small side valley that branches off from the Main Valley behind the Karlstadt industrial park. It is part of the Grainberg-Kalbenstein nature reserve. But over the years, the area has become heavily overgrown. There are also several trash-strewn buildings and rusty fences there. That's about to change.

The Sodenberg crater, a disused basalt quarry near Hammelburg, was opened in 1904 and operated until 1958. It was used to mine basalt for road construction and other purposes. With a depth of around 100 meters and a diameter of around 200 meters, the mining created an impressive crater that is now a popular tourist destination.

Here is a true view into the interior of the earth. Other basalt quarries in the Rhön are filled with water. Here, on the other hand, you can look down along the steep slopes - extremely impressive. Interesting how the plant world, despite the difficult conditions, is trying to gain a foothold.

preferably with the racing bike from the Main upwards, because the bumps don't bother you when you ride slowly

Super nice driveway to Halsbach, hardly any car traffic. On hot days you will find enough shade here, the babbling brook complements the idyll.

The steep, deeply cut water crack forms the drainage channel of the red quartzite area north of the lower values. By clearing out the lower red clay stones and flushing under the lower red quartzite bench, red quartzite blocks break off and the formation of a block current. The blocks show Oblique stratification and oscillation ripples. Source: https://www.umweltatlas.bayern.de/mapapps/resources/reports/geotope/generateBericht.pdf?additionallayerfieldvalue=677R008

6월 13, 2020, Radegundis Chapel
According to a legend, the captive Thuringian princess Radegundis was at the source there when the Franconian king Chlothachar abducted her to his kingdom for a wedding. According to legend, she had fled the forced childless marriage after ten years in order to found a monastery in front of the city of Poitiers after being ordained a deacon by Bishop Medardus of Noyon, where she lived until her death in 587. The Müdesheimer Kreuzweg, which ends here at the chapel, has its own history: In 1866 the Prussians fought against Bavaria near Hammelburg and Kissingen. The residents of Werngrund feared that the Prussians would invade their peaceful valley. The residents of Müdesheim praised the creation of this Stations of the Cross, if they were spared them, and in 1872/73, gratefully built this way.

Beautiful even rise, wonderful nature, varied, consistently paved. Go straight on at the Nantenbacheisenbahnbrücke.
