After the mining of the lignite and after the creation of the Königshovenerhöhe on the site of the former Pielsbusch, the Pielsjoch summit was created with a height of 115.3 m. A hiking trail goes over the Diesel summit.

The Roman tower on the Sophienhöhe is a replica of a watchtower that the Romans used to monitor the site in the 1st to 4th centuries.

The "Römerturm" on the "Steinstraßer Wall" is a replica of an ancient watchtower as it stood on the Heerstrasse from Cologne to Aachen from the 1st to 4th centuries. From here you have a good panoramic view. This is endangered by the growth of the trees and the heap, but of course the opportunity to pause and a little history is still possible.

With a clear view you can see from the Roman Tower with binoculars: Cologne Cathedral, Cologne TV Tower, Stadium in Mönchengladbach the Indemann and a lot more. Düsseldorf is not visible because the topography prevents this (Sophienhöhe stands in the way). A great view! The blooming daffodils at the "Jülich head" at the end of March are also beautiful.

The tower stands on a small forest embankment. Therefore, the few meters increase already bring a lot, because you can see just over the top row of trees across.
