Unfortunately (as of February 2026), the view of the lake from the cabin's "windows" is heavily overgrown. This should probably be cleared soon, otherwise the cabin is of little use as a birdwatching hide.

The Effelder Waldsee is located in a protected nature reserve and covers approximately 38 hectares. The beach and other recreational opportunities are located on the opposite bank. Several rare and endangered species can be found on the Waldsee and in the surrounding area. These include the little ringed plover and several diver species, which even breed here. Whitethroats, cuckoos, and greylag geese are among the native bird species. The lake also serves as a stopover for migratory birds traveling between the south and north. This was once a birdwatching hide. It still is, in fact, one, but due to the vegetation in front of it, there are currently no birds to be seen here at all. At best, it's a hide with graffiti. There is still a sign listing birds you might see here, but you'd better find a spot elsewhere.
