The Celtic settlement of Sandberg is the largest Celtic settlement and the oldest mint in Austria, as well as the Celtic settlement with the most Celtic sanctuaries of all.

The Sandberg is a peak in the Retzer Land with an altitude of 339 m. There is a cross and a 3-story observation tower, which is worth climbing at any time of the year; you can see the Pulkau and Schmida valleys, Retz and the Czech Republic 🤩. There is also a rest area and information boards. Sometimes drinks are chilled in the “wine fountain”.

The Europawarte St.Benedikt stands at 471m above sea level and allows a wonderful all-round view, not only in good weather. Many famous cities and places in the world are marked on the parapet with directional arrows and distance information. For example, it would be only 2456 km to the Cheops pyramid in Egypt. Or to St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna just 71 km. The observation tower was built in 1980 to commemorate the 1500th anniversary of Saint Benedict - Saint Benedict is the patron saint of Europe. Over 112 steps - I didn't count them - you get to the mentioned platform.
