The Pittersberg castle ruins are the ruins of a rock castle on an isolated rock cone on the south side of the Gailbergsattel in the north-west of the town of Laas in the market town of Kötschach-Mauthen. Easy hike through geologically very interesting landscape. Kötschach-Mauthen: panoramic circular hiking trail Please choose Hotel Kürschner as your starting point. From there you come to the Einsiedelkirchlein. Then it goes on to Laas in the direction of the "Petrified Tree" via the very steep and narrow Rittersteig to the Pittersberg ruins, where you will find the stamp office. The descent is in a southerly direction along the field paths to Laas. You can go back via the Einsiedelwald or you can choose the main road to Kötschach. There is a post office in Lasa.

Castle ruins located above Dölsach with a wonderful view of the sunset over The Lienz Basin. Walchenstein Castle, on the southern slope of the Stronacher Kogel east of the Dölsacher Bach gorge, was of great importance for the Counts of Gorizia in the later Middle Ages. Count Albert I gave this Gorizia castle to his Friulian servant Wolfram de Ragogna. After several changes of ownership, it was bought in 1339 by Heinrich von Lavant, a Görzischen vassal. In the turmoil of war in the 13th and 15th centuries, Walchenstein Castle was given the task of blocking the way across the saddle. After 1500 it came into bourgeois possession and fell into disrepair. In recent years archaeological investigations have been carried out, the remains of the wall have been preserved and made accessible to visitors from the Moarhof and the Wallensteinerhöfe. From 1997-99 the UNI IBK prehistory and early history (archeology) excavated and restored them.
