In the municipality of Redlham, gravel has been mined intensively for decades. The resulting change in the landscape has developed into a new habitat for many plants and animals in recent years, but also with its numerous lakes into a popular local recreation area for many people in the area. Like the Great Egret, they are extremely shy and keep a large flight distance. With a bit of luck, you can also see all kinds of songbirds and woodpeckers in the adjacent alluvial forests. These include the rare long-tailed tits, which are already building their nests at an early age. Large herds of deer are hiding on the fields above and the red kite, which has just returned from the south, is circling above their heads. For food, however, it needs small animals such as mice or sick rabbits, but will also eat carrion if necessary. A visit to the adventure area gravel pond in Redlham is always a beautiful nature experience and not only interesting for photographers.

The bathing lake is in the middle of a large area that was designed in 1985 for leisure purposes. There you will find lawns, bathing jetties, barrier-free entry options, a floating wooden island, spring water showers, a snack bar, changing rooms, sanitary facilities and a newly renovated, demarcated area for children and non-swimmers. In spring and autumn you can also use the hiking trail around the lake for long walks and in winter you can play curling on one of the prepared lanes.
