The Otto Meiling refuge is a mountain refuge at almost two thousand meters on the eastern slope of Mount Tronador, in Nahuel Huapi National Park. Opened in 1971 in honor of the German pioneer Otto Meiling, it offers capacity for forty people with a shared kitchen, Patagonian meals, and guided excursions to the glacier.

❤️ This is place is unique. Remote. Lost. It’s a basic but luxurious for those experiences of “refugio” as you have hot water, very comfy beds, and good meals, even a bit of electricity! Rooms are of 4 beds each with a window. The living room is big with windows overlooking the glacier and la Laguna 😊 The staff was very nice 😍 The path to access is of a medium level, or easy for experienced and very sporty people like us. We definitely recommend. Just be ready for the costs, it’s excessively expensive. We paid for 1x adult 250 USD for dinner and breakfast. Register in the entrance of this private natural park when you start the hike!

Refugio Frey, at an altitude of 1,700 meters next to Laguna Toncek in Nahuel Huapi National Park, is one of Bariloche's most iconic mountain destinations. Surrounded by granite towers ideal for climbing, it offers lodging for mountaineers and hikers arriving after a trek from Cerro Catedral or Lago Gutiérrez. In summer, it's perfect for trekking and rock climbing, while in winter it attracts expert skiers with its steep slopes and abundant snow. Access requires good footwear and caution due to the unpredictable weather conditions typical of high mountain terrain.

This day refuge is a historical monument to mountaineering in Bariloche. It was originally built by Otto Meiling, a pioneer of mountaineering in South America and founder of the Bariloche Andean Club, in the 1930s. Currently, it houses a mountain bar and a museum. Overnight stays are not available.

Great discovery during our visit to El Chalten.

It's a very welcoming mountain retreat. Its wooden terrace, facing the valley, is the true treasure of the place.
