Located a little off the jungle path, you will find a quiet spot with a wonderful view of the greenery and the waterfalls and pools in the valley. There is also an abseiling option for locals and canyoning tours, which can be booked through local companies.

After these two climbing sections have been passed, the route continues more easily. It is a steady, slight climb, but without any technical difficulties. Only the last few meters of altitude are a little steeper. Not difficult. However, I did the tour in dry weather, it would definitely be different in wet weather.

The path to the viewpoint is challenging even in dry weather. If it rains, it could be dangerous, especially going downhill. 😬

If you go without a guide, you definitely need a certain amount of experience to find the right paths. We did it without guides, it was a bit of an adventure but doable. 😍

There are numerous beautiful hiking tours of varying difficulty and distance to choose from. Be sure to note the park's closing times at the entrance/exit!

We started at the lowest point, the Black River entrance. We went up to the Petrin Visitor Centre where you can find the Pink Pigeon. Our travel agency had foreseen a taxi at the other side otherwise you have to do a loop. According to our taxi driver do the way in the opposit way, from Petrin Visitor Center to Black River Entrance. But it seems to us that this would not very easy to climb down over rocks and trees.

Be careful, there are men at both starting points of this hiking route who supposedly want to show you the way/a good parking spot and the waterfalls. At the same time, these men are also connected to each other and commute back and forth between these points. After we gave the first man 100 MUR (unfortunately we got out to see the waterfall that he wanted to show us from a distance) and hoped to have fobbed him off, we met him at the second starting point a few minutes later, where he tried to hide from us, the other men almost jumped in front of our car to 'help us' and waved vigorously where we should go. All in all, a scary situation that we wanted to get out of quickly. Take care of yourselves!
