10월 18, 2025, Roman Bridge over the Köprüçay (Eurymedon)

The Oluk Bridge (formerly known as the Eurymedon Bridge) is a Roman bridge over the Köprüçay River, formerly known as the Eurymedon, near the ancient city of Selge, the capital of the Roman province of Pisidia in Turkey. The structure was located on a road leading from the Pamphilia coast to Pisidia. Built in a sparsely populated area, the bridge crosses the Köprüçay River near the village of Beşkonak and is notable for its height. The excellently preserved ancient building is 14 meters long and 3.5 meters wide; the street surface is 2.5 meters wide. The clear width of its single arch is about 7 meters, and the thickness of the wedge-shaped, mortarless stones is 60 centimeters. The construction technique used and the strength of the masonry indicate that it was built in the 2nd century AD, Selge's heyday.

Stunning! If you’re looking to dip in the canyon, I’d advise finding spot along the route to dip and have the tranquility all to yourself, rather than dip in the main pools/areas that everyone uses.

I didn't particularly enjoy the hike to the canyon entrance. Jeeps are constantly driving by, kicking up dust. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I can't say whether the guided tour in the canyon itself is worth it. However, you can swim at the café 100 meters from the entrance, and the Gözleme tastes good too.

Impressive waterfall in Panos Platres. You can either walk directly from the town on a 1.5 km long route to the waterfall (it goes up and down a bit) or you can drive straight there (road just outside Panos Platres) and just walk down the last few steps to the waterfall. Apparently it is less well known than the Kalendonia waterfall and therefore not as crowded - we cannot confirm this...

The geological formation is incredible. The path is next to the basalt wall, it will be safe until a rock falls on someone's head. Today, entry was 300 drams. The structure they built for pedestrians is good, I believe it is possible to travel the route with a wheelchair too. I entered from the side that comes from the valley, going down the street next to the entrance to the Temple of the Sun (separate entrance). There is another entrance for those coming by car, and this one has a slightly steep slope. I didn't like the number of cars passing among the pedestrians, it seems to me that it will turn into a place for mass tourism.

Little Petra is really worth the visit. You can take a free shuttle from Petra main entrance (in the bus area) to go there. From there you can also take the trail heading to the monastry.

The legend on the 'red' colour of the sandstone here: Many years ago, all the mountains in the world lacked colors and shades. The mountains turned to God and said, “Why we do not have colors like the birds, the butterflies, and the flowers. You gave all of them many different and beautiful colors, and only we, the mountains, are so gray and ugly …”? God listened to the mountains and decided to accept their request. He sent his angels, and they quickly painted the mountains. The polar mountains – In white color, the mountains in the desert – brown-yellow, the volcanoes – in black. So, the angels passed through the whole world and painted it with colors. When they reached the Eilat mountains, very little paint remained in their buckets. So, the angels decided to paint the Eilat Mountains in all the remaining colors: a little black, a little red and a little yellow. Therefore, the Eilat Mountains are the most colorful mountains in the world. (https://www.hike-israel.com/hikes/hikes-near-eilat/red-canyon-israel/#red)

Impressive sandstone canyon - more an advanced hike than real climbing (just some ladders essentially), but more than worth the effort to reach this slightly remote location.

The 'Painted House' is located on the main street in 'Siq al-Barid'. It is a rock-cut dining room (biclinium) with well-preserved murals. The paintings are evidence of the importance of the Dionysian religious cult of the Nabataeans. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Petra

'Siq al-Barid' (Cold Gorge), also known as 'Little Petra', is located approximately 6 km north of ancient Petra. The buildings, carved into rocks, were probably built at the height of the Nabataean Empire in the 1st century. AD The gorge is approximately 350 m long and consists of three “open” areas where the buildings are located. 'Little Petra' was probably a suburb of the Nabataean capital and a base for trade on the Silk Road. After the Nabataean Empire fell, the place was used by nomads for many centuries and only in the late 20th century. rediscovered and excavated. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Petra

The main entrance to ancient Petra is through the Siq, a narrow, 1.2 km long gorge in the sandstone formation. The riverbed of Wadi Musa once ran here; this can lead to seasonal flash flooding in winter, then as now. To contain the danger, the Nabataeans built a comprehensive water management system, which has been partially repaired in recent decades to minimize the risk of flash floods after heavy rain in the region. In the last section of the gorge ‘Al-Khazneh’ (The Treasury) becomes visible. This is Petra's most famous attraction. https://nabataea.net/explore/cities_and_sites/the-siq-thaniya/ https://www.cultech.net/flash-floods

Located at 2,200 meters, the World's End descends 880 meters vertically. During the hike you are largely exposed to the sun. During the rainy season the path can become very muddy. Take enough drinks with you. A hike to the World's End is a must when you're in Sri Lanka.

The monument is made up of huge symmetrical hexagonal and pentagonal basalt columns (almost 50 meters high), which appear to be handcrafted due to their extraordinary symmetry. These wonderful rocks were formed under high pressure conditions due to the cooling and crystallization of volcanic lava. These stones suspended against gravity resemble an organ, which explains why it is also called the “Basalt Organ”. The soundtrack is provided by the river that flows through the gorge and fills the splendor of the stone with the sound of water. It is worth it because of the nature and the magnificent views. What was absolutely disappointing was that the café at the end of the gorge was closed (on a Saturday!). The hordes that filled the gorge and were sometimes chauffeured through the gorge with pickups were endlessly annoying.
