The route (upper section of the gorge) was closed from approximately 2021 to 2023 due to high risk of rockfall – reopened in 2024 (information from the Ischl Tourist Information Center). The downhill path requires caution, as there are large, loose stones and rough, hard ground. A fall into the ditch can have serious consequences. 😎 Between Ischl and the Rettenbachalm, it's a simple, hard-packed gravel road.

The Gumpen Cascades are a series of natural waterfalls and pools (called "Gumpen") that meander like steps through a narrow, rocky valley. The crystal-clear water cascades over smooth rocks, collecting in turquoise-green pools, and creating a wildly romantic natural spectacle. The splashing and rushing sound is particularly refreshing on hot days – you can briefly dip your hands or feet into the ice-cold water, or, if you're feeling brave, even lie down in one of the pools to cool off on hot days.

Easy hiking route on the Steyer!!!

The route from Bla-Almin towards Bad Ischl is very impressive in terms of scenery, but is actually not without danger. Nice for MTB and a challenge for trekking bikes and riders. It's better not to drive in the rain. The ground is covered with loose rubble and stones. Some passages are very steep. (downwards!) We pushed the bikes partly, which isn't easy when fully loaded with luggage, and drove the rest very slowly and constantly braking. Shortly after the difficult section you will be rewarded with a small alpine pasture where you can regain your strength.

Very nice cycle path (hazard sign "rockfall") must be observed in spring (permafrost). Upper part very steep (insert low gear early). Also easily feasible with E-MTB.
