I can really recommend this area – so great and so interesting and varied.

The Zeitzgrund is a beautiful gravel road. Here, 🦊 and 🦔 say "goodnight." The paper mill and goat mill are worth a visit, but they're not open all day. The goat mill offers brewery tours, and the "Holzländer" 🍺 is a real blast.

The Warnsdorfgrund is a narrow valley with umpteen ponds and here and there a nice seating area to linger.

A castle was built on the rocky outcrop opposite in the 12th century. It was protected on one side by a deep ravine and on the other by a moat, part of which can still be seen today. In 1351 the monastery bought the castle and did not keep it. As a result, it slowly but steadily fell into disrepair. An information board states that the Lords of Gleichen later built a castle on these walls. However, I have not been able to find any further information about this, let alone drawings or pictures.
