...the Michaels-Klause, also known in the region as Michaels- or Lourdes-Grotte. According to legend, three wild girls lived in Hölloch on Engelstein: Williberga, Hatzinga and Angela. They had stretched a rope from one peak to the other, on which they danced and sang. They kept a treasure in an iron chest guarded by a snake, which had the key to the chest in its mouth, and a large black dog with fiery eyes. They also owned a black stallion with a white blaze that grazed in the meadows around Pattenberg at night, and a rooster that the farmers heard crowing during the harvest. The young women were not squeamish and are said to have committed some outrages... So be careful 😉

The Mariengrotte and the small, cozy forest chapel are only a few meters away from the hiking trail. You should definitely watch it and maybe linger for a few minutes. There is also fresh forest air.

The Maria depicted here is that of Lourdes (France). The feast day of "Our Lady in Lourdes" is on February 11th, this is the anniversary of the apparition of Mary (1858), when Our Lady appeared to 14-year-old Bernadette Soubirous in a rock grotto near Lourdes. Bernadette later became a nun and died at the age of only 35. On December 8th (the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary) in 1933, she was canonized by Pope Pius XI. The day of remembrance of the Lourdes Madonna is also World Day of the Sick.

Unfortunately there are no parking spaces in Pattenberg. Therefore park in mountains e.g. Cable car, parking lot Kalkofen or Kohlstatt and walking up the mountain ...

Can be reached relatively easily by mountain bike via Strass or Kohlstadt. Then park the bike somewhere, walk up to the “summit” and enjoy the view 😉.
