The place was first mentioned in a document in 1534. The Stolzenburg in Stelzenberg, which was built by the "Lord of Stelzenberg", was first mentioned in 1293. The castle, built in 1244, was completely destroyed in the Thirty Years' War. From 1818 to 1862, it belonged to the Kaiserslautern district commission, from which the Kaiserslautern district office emerged. The Horst forestry house was built in 1835 by Baron Friedrich von Gienanth as a forestry farmstead. He was the owner of the Trippstadt castle, the ironworks, the farms, the forests and other properties in the districts around Trippstadt and Stelzenberg. In 1865, the property was transferred to the Bavarian state for a purchase price of one million guilders. The forestry house is currently owned by the state.

Beautifully located log cabin and wonderful view towards Weilerbach. Good cake and also the food is good home cooking. If there is wind, you have to look for a sheltered spot. You can find it at www.bernds-blockhaus.de and is only open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays
