From below and from above: Very impressive!

This was our starting point for the circular tour. Amazing from below, it looks even more impressive from above! Looking down gives you a thrill :) The dam is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. A stamping station is available for tours.

The dam is rather unspectacular. The path along the west side of the reservoir is also not worth the effort. The view of the lake is usually blocked by trees, even in winter, as the trees are so densely packed that the trunks obscure the view.

The castle park is located directly next to Kochberg Castle. It is a very well-kept area with great plants.

The history of the dam is also exciting. You can find out all about it in the information center on the dam wall.

In fact, all around the castle, which was built in the Renaissance style, and in the cosy landscaped park, romantic seating areas await passing visitors. And romance is a top priority here. No less a person than Goethe was often a guest of the house to indulge his love for Charlotte von Stein. The former manor was owned by her family in his time. The amateur theatre located on the site perfectly rounds off the sensual ensemble. With the love story of Charlotte and Wolfgang in mind and lush flower arrangements, old trees and castle ambience in front of your eyes, the guest can start to rave about it. A gem of contemplation, no more than a 35km stone's throw south of Weimar. Conclusion: Kochberg Castle & Park = very worthwhile!
