To the west of Traunfeld lies the Traunfelder Bachtal. The eponymous Traunfeld stream, which rises in Traunfeld, has dug itself deep into the Alb plateau here.[2] There are numerous springs on the slopes, which are mostly covered with beech trees, some of which also feed fish ponds. The Traunfelder Bach flows into the Raschbach near Hagenhausen, which flows into the Schwarzach near Schleifmühle.[3] There were once a few mills in the valley floor, of which today only the names Eratsmühle and Mauertsmühle bear witness. The valley is part of the designated Traunfelder Bachtal landscape protection area

The Schottental is certainly one of the most beautiful valleys in the Franconian Palatinate. Fauna and flora are varied and interesting from April to October, you can safely cross the small stream on stepping stones.

Small nature reserve on the Molsbach - deep gorge, many springs and lots of forest - unfortunately the ash trees have died out here too.

In the valley floor there are species-rich, moderately intensively used and partly fallow meadows and pastures. On the steep slopes, mixed forests with beech and pine trees and calcareous grassland alternate with poor pastures. Dense sloe bushes and hedges also serve as nesting habitats for birds. Ferns can be found on the shady sides of rocks. The open slopes with the calcareous grassland are important habitats for butterflies and insects.
