The most famous part of the gorge is the "Iron Gate" where the two sides are 3m wide and 300-700m high.

Some tours offered by Komoot claim that there is a bus stop at the start/end point of the gorge in Aradena. Even if that were the case: there is no public bus going there. Anopoli is (usually) approached once a day (departure Chania 2 p.m., arrival around 4 p.m., return in the morning 6:30 a.m.). As of summer 2022.

The gorge is over 16 km long with beautiful views. Due to its length, it is not suitable for children. Caution: Danger to life from falling rocks! Before entering the gorge, be sure to save the rangers' phone number on your phone in case you need assistance. There is a helipad to which injured people first have to be brought laboriously with stretchers and donkeys. I would only enter the escape with a hard hat. Head lacerations, arm fractures and/or serious leg injuries are more common. In case of falling rocks, go to the rocks, don't run away from the rocks. The gorge remains closed in rain, storms and bad weather.

Shortly after the entrance, it goes down in serpentines. This is also where the traffic jams the most when buse wisely people start the tour.

Shortly after the entrance you walk with a lot of other people, but after a few kilometers it spreads out quite well, so that you no longer have the feeling of being part of a popular hike.
