The descent from Mislinja to Velenje is fantastic. I found it more enjoyable to ride this way and have this highlight as a kind of reward for the longer, but not strenuous, climb 😉

A wonderful route along the former Lavanttal Railway. A gentle climb leads to Mislinja, and from there downhill through several tunnels and over several viaducts and new bridges through the narrow valley to Velenje. Parts of this cycle path were only completed in 2024, making them brand new and excellently designed.

There is a small rest area right before the tunnel with information about the entire route. The lighting works via motion detectors, so if you cycle in too quickly you might find yourself riding in the dark for a moment.
