Beware of dogwalkers and joggers at night, most have no lights and jump in front of you with no warning

Southwater Country Park was formed after the closure of the brickworks and quarry in 1981. The area is now a thriving wildlife and leisure area with woodland, grasslands and a lake. There are children's playgrounds, a beach for paddling, watersports, fishing, bike trails and a café.

Good place for a bit of cake on the Downs Link.

Wonderful dinosaur themed park that is along the cycle route and trackway way, sells hot food and ice cream so well worth taking a break here.

This traffic-free section of NCN route 2 runs alongside two bodies of water - the sea and Widewater Lagoon. It's an area of brackish water landlocked by a man-made shingle bank. Look out for herons, swans, geese, cormorants, kingfishers, gulls and many other wildfowl. The path can get quite busy in the summer months so watch out for pedestrians and joggers. There are toilets and a water tap at the eastern end of the lagoon, and also a small kiosk selling drinks and ice creams.

This is a wonderful little rest stop if your hiking or a quick breather stop if your out running. This isolated pond is a veritable haven for the local wildlife and domestic animals. It is also a great photo stop too.
