Carn Liath is a 975m Munro mountain in the Scottish Highlands. It sits to the east of Glen Tilt. We parked at https://www.ny-ezpass.com

Not as steep/ boggy as I expected, and the river crossings had good stepping stones (although caveat it’s been a dry summer generally although torrential last few days).

No ski scarring so I actually think this is an under rated Glenshee munro.

One of the more straight-forward Munro ascents if you start below the dam and return via the route of ascent (avoiding the ridge). Wonderful views to Ben Lawers

Another stunning summit, often overlooked as a Munro as it is so close to Ben Lawers. Descending is great fun but quite technical in places. Some epic tight switchbacks towards to bottom.

The route visits the munro Meall Nan Tarmachan first before the ridge, so it is possible to just visit the munro and return via the same route, making the route approx 2-3hrs long at just 5 miles :-)

Sgòrr Dhearg is the highest of the two Munros in Beinn a' Bheithir, and is the end of the beautiful arched ridge from the lower Sgòrr Bhan. With a summit height of 1024 metres, the climb to the summit is long, yet rewarding, with some technical mountain running trails and easy scrambling to be enjoyed on its ascent.

Descent was harder than going up, it can be very slippery and it’s very steep. it may be wise to reach the top and then turn back on yourself.

The ridge connecting Aonach Eagach and Stob Ghabhar is a classic, but care and experience is needed due to the technical terrain, sheer face and large drops. The summit of Stob Ghabhar (1090m) offers far-reaching views to the West Coast, over alpine-style scenery. Route options from here are Aonach Eagach to the East, Stob a'Bruiaich to the North, or an initially pathless route down the hill, initially aiming for Meall an Araich. On this route as you approach a saddle in the hills, you will pick up a double-track that offers a quicker / easier route towards Loch Tulla.

Very scenic on the way up and definitely more interesting than Ben Lawers.

On the usual route to Ben Lawers, it's Beinn Ghlas that dominates the view ahead, hiding its parent peak from view. This is a wonderfully accessible Munro, especially given its 3,619-foot (1,103 m) height, thanks to the high Ben Lawers car park. Beinn Ghlas can be bypassed either in ascent or descent via a path that contours around its northern flanks. It's also possible to link Beinn Ghlas to Meall Corranaich to the northwest.

Meall nan Tarmachan, the Hill of the Ptarmigan, is the highest peak and only Munro on the Tarmachan Ridge. At 3,422 feet (1,044 m), it's not as high as nearby Ben Lawers but many hillwalkers prefer it for its rough, rocky and entertaining terrain. It's also very easily accessed from the high car park to the east.

Beinn Ghlas, at 3,619 feet (1,103 m), is a Munro usually climbed on the way to Ben Lawers. When running, it signifies the end of the long, tough ascent from the start point. The exciting ridge line and scrambly, rocky ascent that links Beinn Ghlas to Ben Lawers is great fun to run.
