On the slopes of Leith Hill, Friday Street is especially beautiful in the spring when the area is resplendent with bluebells. The mill pond is wonderfully calming, just watch for the ducks that occasionally waddle about. Head up the road to the west of the pond to find the Stephen Langton Inn, tucked away in the woodland it is a hidden gem of Surrey.

This Grade II-listed park holds the remnants of a Roman building amongst its 60 acres (24.2 ha). With woodlands, ponds and plenty of wildlife, it makes for a wonderful place for a hike. In the south of the park sits a grand historic house which now serves as an independent school.

This lake is a Surrey Wildlife Trust nature reserve. It's a great place to spot birds - more than 100 species have been sighted, including kingfishers, lesser spotted woodpeckers and hawfinches. Dragonfly and damselfly species also abound. But the lake is best known for fungi. More than 900 different species have been recorded, included one new to science.
