Very tough climb that you have to ride at least once.

WARNING! Extremely dangerous descent, not suitable for rim brakes, even with well-maintained disc brakes, it's not easy!!! And I'm never worried about descents otherwise 😉

The step before the descent

The climb to Punta Veleno starts from the Gardesana road near Castello di Brenzone. It is about 8 km long with a difference in altitude of about 1000 m. Its fame comes from the extreme and constant gradient: average around 13% with numerous sections at 15% and peaks of up to 20%. It has tight hairpin bends with spectacular views of Lake Garda.

Tiring but certainly among the best routes. Mixed terrain, important health and my day was quite demanding, the weather was not favorable and I found everything from sun to rain and fog (or brought home wet clothes and a great satisfaction) I recommend the experience.

Beautiful road, partly newly asphalted. Lots of motorcycle traffic on weekends.

The Passo dei Lumini takes its name from the hamlet of San Zeno di Montagna with around 150 inhabitants. According to tradition, the name of the small village derives from the presence, in ancient times, of packs of wolves kept away with fires which, from a distance, at night, looked like lights.
