The Ford Green Reed Bed is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, designated because of the large numbers of swallows that gather there before migrating at the end of the summer.

Great as a small circular walk or incorporated as part of a larger walk. Popular with local dog walkers, anglers and photographers capturing shots of the many water birds.

Great place to have a wander or ride your bike and learn about the areas industrial past. The views would have been very different not so long ago and certainly not as nice as the ones today.

Outdoor Snappr's tip is certainly accurate! The moment I clapped eyes on the lake, I saw a very bold rat run in front of me to the shelter of the shrubbery. If you visit the lake, check out the source of the brook too. A nice little walk which leads to Birch Wood if you want a detour.

A pleasant little lake, just watch out for the rats.

The Ford Green Reed Bed at the south end of the site is one of Stoke-on-Trent's two Sites of Special Scientific Interest. It has been designated because large numbers of swallows gather there before leaving the country at the end of the summer.

Designed by Thomas Lawson, the lake was created at a cost of £2,500 and filled with water from the Caldon Canal. The Boathouse has served in times past as a cafe and is destined to become so yet again.
