The trail meanders through wooded areas and along the Grand River, providing opportunities for wildlife spotting and enjoying nature. While the trail is shared with mountain bikers, visiting during off-peak hours can offer a more tranquil hiking experience.

Hawk Island County Park Pond is the center of Hawk Island County Park. There is a small beach, trails around it, and a boat put in. This is a nice spot to take in the views over the water before continuing on your ride around the pond or beyond on the Lansing River Trail.

A lake with a lot of recreational value.

There are over 20 miles of paved paths that make up the Lansing River Trail, and each section feels a little different. This part of the trail passes through Scott Woods Park, which is mostly forested. The Lansing River Trail connects to a bunch of other parks and paths across town helping to create a large network of walking and running paths.

Hawk Island County Park is one of the newer parks around Lansing. It has paved trails that are great for running, and you only have to pay an entrance fee if you bring your car onto the property. There is a big pond at the main trailhead that the path goes around.
