A meeting of the ways as well as the col between Tryfan and Glyder Fach

The high pass between Tryfan and Glyder Fach is also a crossroads for a number of paths - down to the Ogwen valley, but also up to Tryfan and to Glyder Fach via the Bristly Ridge or the bypass route.

If you want to park here, you have to reserve a parking space in advance for 20 GBP. We didn't manage to do it, as everything was fully booked. You can then park in Llanberies and take the Sherpa Bus S1 or S2 to Pen y Pass. The bus runs every half hour. From Pen y Pass, you can then choose the Miner's Track or Pyg Track. Have fun!

Magnificent and dizzying view! However, prefer to go around in the opposite direction to that indicated. The steep slope is very narrow and steep. Easier to go up than to go down.

Sychnant Pass (Welsh: Bwlch Sychnant, "Dry-stream Pass") in Conwy County Borough, Wales, links Conwy to Penmaenmawr via Dwygyfylchi. Much of the pass is in Snowdonia National Park, and a large area of land within it has been designated a site of Special Scientific Interest. At the bottom is the village of Capelulo, which lends its name to the community of Penmaenmawr. Tough climb from any direction. Well worth for the stunning scenery.

Tryfan South Ridge is a route up the easier, yet never that easy, side of Tryfan. Tryfan’s South Ridge starts from Bwlch Tryfan and there are a number of approaches you can take to arrive at this point, including tacking it onto a circuit of the Glyderau. This loop however, takes in the approach via Cwm Tryfan towards Bwlch Tryfan before descending via Cwm Bochlwyd to the start. You could extend the outing by descending via Cwm Bochlwyd and then Cwm Idwal, and returning along the far shore of Llyn Ogwen and negating the need for the short section of road at the end.

One of the best ranges to explore bit of a scramble but very enjoyable

The bwlch between Tryfan and Glyder Fach is marked by a high stile and wall. It's a useful navigational point when running here in poor weather.

Pen-y-Pass is the start point for the Pyg Track, Miners Track and Crib Goch routes up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). It's also the start of the Snowdon Horseshoe fell running route and often used as a checkpoint for longer mountain runs including the Welsh 3000s and 1000s. There's limited and expensive parking, but it's serviced by a regular bus from Llanberis which is a much better way of accessing the hills here. There is a small shop and cafe and the YHA across the road with a bar.

Super fast descent to Nant Gwynant

Bwlch Tryfan is the pass between two of Wales' finest mountains: Tryfan and Glyder Fach. A number of trails meet here and the adventures it gives access to are wonderful. The South Ridge scramble to Tryfan's airy summit begins here which, as an easy grade one scramble, is the easiest way up the mountain. Head south for Bristly Ridge, a much trickier grade one scramble that leads straight up to Glyder Fach's moonscape summit.

Car park needs to be pre booked via the app. Facilities are there with free wifi to ensure maps are downloaded before heading out. Gives you a good start on Pen-y-Pass track or on Miners track.

A great starting point to take the Crib Goch route to the top of the Snowdon. But if exposed ridgelines are not your idea of fun take the Pyg Track route. This is the busiest part of the park and understandably so. Be sure to pack with a sense of respect for the terrain and changeable weather.

A fantastic little climb that is a slightly detour road compared to the coastal path, but definitely worth it. Yes, it is steep at times, but at the top the view back over where you came and beyond the sea is worth it.

Right in the heart of northern Eryri (Snowdonia), Pen-y-Pass is superbly located for adventures on the Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) massif and the Glyderau. It is a popular starting point for the Miners' and Pyg Tracks to Yr Wyddfa, as well as for the exciting scrambles on Crib Goch. The excellent youth hostel has a rich mountaineering heritage. It was famously the haunt of George Mallory, who became part of Everest legend when he died attempting to be the first person to climb the world's highest peak in 1924. Whether or not he ever made it to the summit is one of the greatest mysteries in adventure history. The hostel's Mallory's Bar, is named in his honour.
